Chevron introduces Techron® fuel treatment formulated for powersports and small engine performance

Powersports engines cover a wide range of sizes and performance levels; ATVs, UTVs, watercraft, karts, snowmobiles and scooters are all included in the powersports equipment category. Other engines that have similar fuel needs include generators, construction, forestry, landscaping and grounds maintenance equipment.

Down time for any of these engines can mean a day of recreation becomes stressful, a worksite comes to a halt, or a full day of work is lost, as well as potentially costly engine repairs. These engines share a need for quality, consistent fuel delivered through a properly functioning fuel system.

Unfortunately, most fuel available at roadside gas stations contains ethanol. In most cases, the fuel is designated E10, which means a 10% ethanol blend. There are reasons for the inclusion of ethanol, but for the engines discussed here, its inclusion in gasoline formulations bring unique challenges.

Chevron saw that existing fuel treatments did not fully address the needs of these engines and developed a comprehensive additive - Techron® Protection Plus Powersports & Small Engine Fuel System Treatment - to avoid the problems facing these engines. This new formulation, now available at all AutoZone locations, at, and at, delivers the following best-in-class benefits:

• Techron Protection Plus cleans deposits left behind by soluble and insoluble peroxides or gums that form when untreated pump fuel reacts with oxygen, and it protects against the formation of future deposits of oxidation byproducts that gum up, clog, and compromise the fuel delivery system. These deposits reduce power, responsiveness, and fuel economy while increasing exhaust emissions.

• Techron Protection Plus is compatible with elastomers commonly used for components in fuel systems. It has been engineered and tested to achieve minimal swelling, hardening, weakening or stretching of elastomers used in fuel systems.

• Especially important for engines that see sporadic or seasonal use, Techron Protection Plus Powersports & Small Engine Fuel System Treatment stabilizes fuel for up to 24 months to prevent fuel deterioration which can lead to poor performance, knocking, hard starting, or an engine that will not start at all. Techron Protection Plus contains no alcohol or emulsifiers, ensuring that it won’t contribute to water uptake.

• Lab testing has proven that Techron Powersports & Small Engine sets a new standard in overall additive performance, cleaning and then keeping clean more thoroughly and effectively than competitive brands.

These benefits are all delivered with a simple pour-in additive. Designed for use with every tank, one ounce treats four gallons. Some engine owners will only apply it to stored fuel; that’s one benefit – and a very important one, as snow clearing equipment and snow-season powersports vehicles are being retired for the summer – but not the full benefit available. Techron Protection Plus Powersports & Small Engine Fuel System Treatment gives engine owners best-in-class corrosion protection, detergency to clean-up and keep your system clean, up to 24-month fuel stability and full compatibility with engine components. That means cleaner running, preventative care, better performance, reliability, and maybe the most dramatic benefit – avoiding lost time and money (and fun!).
