Complex gear lubricants often require the services of a trained engineer to monitor the lubricant application rates and application systems. Draglines, Shovels and Excavators
This equipment is one of the most critical components in a mining operation. Due to their size and operating conditions, the loads placed on lubricating oils and greases are very high.
- Open gears and Wire Ropes—Crater 2, Crater Fluid M or H provide strong resistance to washout, low environmental impact, and high film strength for excellent anti-wear protection.
- Enclosed Gears (oil)—Meropa 460 is a high-performance, multipurpose gear lubricant design for industrial gear lubrication services where loads and shock loadings are high.
- Carbody Grease, automatic or manual, and Track System—Starplex Moly MPGM seals out water, has extreme pressure protection and heat resistance, and is designed especially for extended-service, heavy-duty mining use.
Hydraulic Systems—Rando HD (32 – 100)
 Haul Trucks and LoadersHaul trucks and loaders are among the most common mining equipment, with brands such as Bell, Caterpillar, Hitachi, Kamatsu, Liebherr, Terex, and Volvo-BM. The engines used in larger haul trucks and loaders are usually more modern Cummins, Caterpillar, Detroit Diesel or MTU.
- 4-stroke Diesel Engines—Ursa Premium TDX is a super, high-performance diesel engine oil specially designed for turbocharged diesel engines requiring extended drain intervals, and engines equipped with emission gas recirculation systems (EGR).
- Cooling Systems—Extended Life Coolant System is a highly effective, long-term corrosion inhibitor package.
- Final Drives and Wheel Motors—Thuban GL5 EP.
- Hydraulics—Rando HD (32 - 100) and Rando HDZ provide maximum hydraulic pump protection.
Bulldozers, Scrapers and Graders
These machines are usually subjected to very harsh working conditions. Often used on a high-demand cycle, they might receive lower levels of maintenance attention because of their remote working locations. Engines and final drives for these vehicles require the greatest protection.
- Engines—Ursa Premium TDX Multigrade is a super, high-performance diesel engine oil that is ideal for high-demand heavy construction and mining equipment. It meets major manufacturers' services requirements, including Caterpillar, Cummins, Mercedes-Benz, DDC/MTU, MTU.
- Final Drives—Thuban GL5 EP.
- Transmissions — Texaco Transmission and Drive Train TO-4 Oils are recommended for Caterpillar transmissions, final drives, wet brakes, and Allison Powershift transmissions, torque converters, and hydraulic system requiring Allison C4 or Caterpillar TO-4 or TO-2 fluids.
- Hydraulics — Rando HD (32 - 100) and Rando HDZ provide maximum hydraulic pump protection.

Conveyer Systems
The choice of many mining companies to transfer large volumes of material over long distances, conveyers require lubrication of head, tail and take-up pulley bearings, and gearboxes.
