Elevated soot levels demand an oil with excellent soot dispersancy such as Delo® 400. In addition to outstanding soot dispersancy, enhanced Delo® 400 has a higher Base Number to neutralize combustion acids. Proven Soot Control Performance in Industry-Standard Tests
In the latest API service category for diesel engine oils, API CI-4, many of the performance aspects rated reflect manufacturers' concerns over increasing levels of soot and the effect on engine durability and service intervals.
 
The key Cummins M11-EGR test is a good example. This engine test evaluates an oil's ability to control the effects of soot on abrasive wear of the valve crossheads and piston top rings, plus its ability to prevent soot plugging of the oil filter.
