Caltex entered Ceylon in 1938, but suspended operations when the petroleum industry was nationalized. Caltex re-entered the Sri Lankan market in 1994 with the acquisition of a 51% stake in Lanka Lubricants Ltd (LLL), as the energy industry began undergoing significant changes.
The smooth transition of LLL from Government ownership to a listed Public Limited Liability Company has made it a major success story in Sri Lanka's privatization process. Shares of the Company were listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange in 1996. The Company was re-named Caltex Lubricants Lanka Limited (CLLL) in September 1999.
The main operations of CLLL are blending, importing, distributing, and marketing of lubricating oils, greases and specialty products. The majority of products sold by CLLL today are produced locally at the Company's blending plant in Kolonnawa.
CLLL is a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, which ranks among the largest and most competitive global energy companies. With its headquarters in San Ramon, California, Chevron Corporation is active in more than 180 countries and is engaged in every aspect of the oil and gas industry, including exploration and production, refining, marketing and transportation; manufacturing and sale of chemicals, and power generation.
